Terms of service

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Amhara website, waitlist, account system, and the Amhara macOS application (together, the "Service"). By joining the waitlist, creating an account, downloading, installing, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these terms.

Amhara is currently free to use during its private beta. Some parts of these terms describe how the Service is intended to work once it is generally available, and are marked as such below.

Amhara is a native macOS menu bar application. It detects apps that have been idle in the background and, only if you turn the setting on, can close them automatically. It also lets you create Focus Modes: named setups that close apps you do not want open, launch and arrange the apps you do, and can be triggered manually, with a keyboard shortcut, on a schedule, or automatically around a matching calendar event. Desk Snapshots let you save your current window layout and restore it later.

All of this is controlled through settings in the application itself. Automatic behavior, such as closing idle apps, is off until you turn it on, and you can exempt any app, adjust idle delays, or disable a feature entirely at any time.

Some features require macOS's Accessibility permission, which the application prompts you to grant the first time you use a feature that needs it. Granting this permission lets the application arrange and close other applications on your behalf, consistent with the features you have enabled. It does not give the application access to the contents of your files or your screen.

The website, separately, lets you join a pre launch waitlist and create and manage an Amhara account. The waitlist and the account system are independent: joining the waitlist does not create an account, and creating an account does not require having joined the waitlist first.

Consistent with our Privacy Policy, the Service is intended for general use and is not directed to children under the age of 13. By using the Service, you represent that you are at least 13 years old.

You may create an account using an email address and password, or by signing in with a Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account.

You can permanently delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deletion removes your account, your profile, and the data associated with them, as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate the Acceptable Use section below, attempt to circumvent the Service's bot and abuse protections, or otherwise misuse the Service.

Joining the waitlist means providing an email address, and optionally a referral source, so we can notify you when Amhara becomes available. Waitlist submissions are protected against automated abuse and are not a purchase, reservation, or guarantee of access.

The Service does not currently collect payment or offer a paid subscription. If and when a paid tier launches, its own terms (pricing, billing cadence, cancellation, and refund policy) will be presented to you before you are charged, and this section will be updated to reflect them.

You agree not to:

• Attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with the Service's bot detection, rate limiting, or account security controls.
• Access or attempt to access another user's account or data without authorization.
• Use the waitlist or account system to submit false, misleading, or another person's contact information without their consent.
• Interfere with the normal operation of the Service, including through excessive automated requests.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that violates the rights of others.

The Service relies on third-party providers to operate, including an authentication and database provider, a bot and abuse protection provider, and, if you choose to sign in that way, Google for authentication. Your use of those sign-in and protection mechanisms is also subject to those providers' own terms. See our Privacy Policy for how each of them processes data on our behalf, and to request the specific providers by name.

Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Amhara application on Macs you own or control, for your own personal or internal business use.

The Amhara name, logo, and the Service's content, design, and software are owned by Amhara or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These terms do not grant you any right to use Amhara's trademarks or branding except as necessary to use the Service as intended.

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. In particular, because Amhara is in private beta, the Service may change, break, or become unavailable without notice.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Amhara will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these terms, or discontinue the Service (or the waitlist, or private beta) at any time, with notice where reasonably practicable.

We may update these terms as the Service changes. If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Amhara does not yet operate through a separate formal legal entity: these terms are entered into between you and the individual currently operating the Service. We have not designated a specific governing law or venue for disputes at this stage of the private beta. If a dispute arises, contact us first at legal@amhara.app so we can try to resolve it directly before pursuing any other remedy.
